At just two years old, Cheech was discovered living on the streets of Texas, and his journey led him to a sizable neighborhood shelter. Fortunately, Cheech’s fate took a positive turn when he was rescued by the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue. Despite initial assumptions that his young age might make him scared or anxious in his new environment, Cheech quickly dispelled those concerns.

Soon after arriving at the shelter, Cheech began making the most adorable and comical faces from his kennel. Some staff and volunteers initially mistook his expressions for misery rather than humor. However, Cheech promptly responded with the cutest and cheekiest smile, endearing himself to everyone he met.

Leah Sipe, the Director of the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue, recalled the moment she discovered Cheech’s enchanting smile. She exclaimed for others to come and witness the remarkable sight, and as she cautiously extended her hand toward him, some were fearful, assuming he might growl. To their surprise, Cheech turned out to be as friendly as could be.

In an effort to share Cheech’s beautiful smile with the world, Sipe posted a picture of him on the shelter’s Facebook page. The internet quickly fell in love with Cheech, and the post received over 7,000 shares, resulting in more than 50 adoption requests for the happy dog.

The shelter was overwhelmed with joy at the outpouring of interest in adopting Cheech and finding him the perfect forever home.

After carefully reviewing the numerous applications, the shelter team found the ideal candidate. This applicant had recently lost one of her pets to cancer, leaving her other dog, Dusty, in need of a new companion to help him through this difficult time. After meeting Cheech, it became clear that he and Dusty would make a fantastic pair, bringing comfort and joy to each other’s lives.

The City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue, a newly converted former jail, is set to officially open its doors on November 12th. Thanks to Cheech and his heartwarming smile, there will undoubtedly be a long line of people eager to adopt puppies from this wonderful facility.
