Stormy, formerly known as Freshy, seemed like the perfect family pet. He was sweet, affectionate, and got along splendidly with children, dogs, and even cats. He had spent his entire life in a loving home with four children, two other dogs of varying sizes, and a cat. But when his family welcomed their fifth child, they made a heartbreaking decision – they decided Stormy no longer belonged.

This decision led to Stormy’s unfortunate fate of ending up in a crowded Brooklyn shelter. The fear and heartbreak in his eyes were evident in the shelter photo. Alana Guerrini, an Eleventh Hour Rescue volunteer and foster carer, came across Stormy’s profile and knew she had to act fast.

Stormy was on the brink of being euthanized, with the execution scheduled for 5 p.m. Guerrini and her team received the call at 4:58 or 4:59, giving them just minutes to save him. They managed to secure Stormy’s release, and he was officially off death row.

Guerrini and her 16-year-old son picked up Stormy and drove him to their home in New Jersey, where he would be fostered until finding a forever home. Stormy wasted no time, jumping right into their car. He climbed onto her son’s lap, expressing gratitude with every wiggle and face kiss. Stormy was showing his appreciation for the chance to live, and it was clear he had a special connection with Guerrini’s son.

Throughout the car ride, Stormy insisted on sitting in her son’s lap, and his gentle and caring nature shone through. Even when her son’s hand got stuck in Stormy’s mouth while they were play-wrestling, Stormy displayed remarkable restraint, avoiding any harm.
